VERAGE WINDSOR Carry-On from LUGGAGE CITY - RECOMMENDATION
The VERAGE Windsor carry-on is a 21.5X15X9’ or 55X38X23cm hard-side luggage case.
The nicely designed hard-shell case has a two-clasp lock closure not the regular zip as on most. It is well made using an aluminum alloy for the opening framework support, complete with a rubber gasket for water resistance. The case body is a polycarbonate moulding and has a fluted finish on the front and back to provide an enhanced distinctive appearance, which will also reduce the visibility of some inevitable scuff marks over its lifetime. The division of volume is 30/70% in the lid/base. Neat and effective, it functions well, looks good but is not ostentatious, even with its VERAGE nameplate.
It is intended as an airline compatible carry-on luggage so the size is restricted by design. Consequently the case has no external access pockets and does not provide for expansion. The interior volume is rated at 36L and with careful packing I was able to holiday for 10 days without any trouble. Personally I find it handier to have my immediate needs, book, med and drink bottle located in my personal side-pack/briefcase.
I bought the VERAGE to update my 22X13X8” 32L volume non-zip hard-shell, just for the additional features, size increase and 4 swivel wheels versus 2 inline on my old case, which has served me well for 25+ years. The Windsor is a glossy PC finish and will probably show more scuff marks than my sand texture finish black case, but time will tell. The interior is an enhanced experience with webbed screen dividers either side. The base also has webbing hold down straps. Fully loaded it snaps closed just as I like it, by pressing the locks into the engaged position.
The case maneuvers nicely and the extendable handle has several stop levels providing durable guidance in tow/push or in along-side use. The case has top and side carry handles and a base indent where one can support it while lifting into overhead stowage. Given the 30/70 lid/base distribution, the case balances nicely when carrying by either handle as this allows the dropped section to have a toe out alignment and avoids brushing against your lower leg as you carry it; not extreme but enough to be effective.
In short I like it and expect it to last indefinitely with care in use.
